Mother And Daughter Enroute To Abuja For Reunion

The mother of Ese Oruru, Mrs. Rose Oruru, has left Bayelsa for Abuja where she is expected to be reunited with her daughter, according to a top police source in the state. Ese is also en route to Abuja from Kano for the reunion with her family.

Family sources also confirmed that Rose was being taken by the police to meet her daughter, but could not provide details about the trip.

The 14-year-old’s father, Charles, told our correspondent that he was not making the trip, but that he was eager to see his daughter again.

Ese was freed by the Federal Government on Monday, eight months after she was abducted by one Yinusa, who took her to Kano, had her converted to Islam and married her.

Efforts by her parents to get the girl released had been resisted until PUNCH launched the “Free Ese” campaign on Sunday, which was embraced by Nigerians.

The parents are skeptical about the news of their daughter’s release because of their experience over the past eight months.

Ese’s father, Charles, said despite being informed by the Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa that his daughter had been freed, he would wait until he meets her before celebrating.

“I won’t believe anything until I see my daughter, Ese, in person,” he said.

Ese’s mother, Rose, held the same view.
She said, “We have been hearing different rumours, but I won’t believe any of them until I see my daughter.

When we went to Kano, the Emir said something about her being released to us, so why should I believe them this time?

“But I will be happy to see my daughter back home with me and safe.”
..... In the midst of this Saga, My question still remains, How can a man condescend to the level of thinking and kidnapping an under-aged girl in the bid to marry her?
