ON BECOMING 57
I pledge to Nigeria my country
To be faithful loyal and honest
To serve our father land
With love and strength and faith
The labour of our hero's past
Shall never be in vain
To serve with heart and might
One nation bound in freedom
Peace and unity
So goes the National pledge of our beloved country. I was born here, on this land, with a heritage that introduces me to the world. Nigeria has well over 200 ethnic groups and culture. We pride ourselves as the " Giant of Africa". We are so rich in oil, crude, cocoa, rubber, cotton, granite etc. Our landmark itself is history. We have seen and had so many hero's past. Some as living legends some as past hero's. Undivided we stand.
Right from existence God's love has always been evident to us. We rarely have the Landslide, Tsunami, Earthquake, Hurricane, Flooding natural disasters which other country live with. God loves us so much!
On this day, we should all reflect on our achievements and shortcomings not forgetting the victories and hard times. On this day, a country emerged as a single state with sovereign rights and privileges. Nigeria is one of the most accommodating country in the world. Nigerians have been named the most receptive people around the world.
As a country with well over 160 million people, we must not be resilient in pointing out our shortcomings. We have been blessed with so many natural resources, mineral resources but at 57 so much still needs to be done. I am sad to say at this age, we are not where we are expected to be.
Our commerce, economic, and financial stratas still needs rejuvenating as it plunges day by day. Our educational sector is more than dilapidated. We need to do more to put our schools in check, making sure that all concerned bodies are duly taken care of. Remember that 'Education is Key'. Our finance is the power house of the country. We need to do more to make sure our Naira has more value than it is now. At 57, our security sector is next to poop! We do not have to continue living in fear. A sovereign country amongst others must be able to provide security for her masses.
I know Nigeria will rise again. I know we are getting there. I know Rome wasn't built in a day, it takes time and a long process.
As Nigerians, we should wake up everyday with a word of prayer for our beloved country. Nigeria has gone through worse times and is still passing through that valley. Our leaders cannot do it all as they are humans. We need to always remember that Nigeria is ours, it's our home, our identity, our heritage. It is the blueprint that exposes use to the world.
I love Nigeria. God bless Nigeria. Happy Independence to us all.
